Horizon 2020 project “SocialCar” set out to facilitate urban travelling
Good news for all Luxembourg commuters: soon your everyday travelling is likely to become a lot easier, faster and more social by just a few smart phone clicks!
The Horizon 2020 project “SocialCar” is developing an IT platform providing planning, booking and payment services for multimodal and multi-service trips online and via mobile app. The project unites ITS developers, social and economic scientists, transport engineers, car-poolers and public authorities from Luxembourg and 12 other European countries. Their mission is to design, develop, test and roll out a service that simplifies the travel experience of citizens in urban areas.
By developing data processing flows and algorithms, the project responds to the challenge of matching travel requests with the integrated public-private transport supply. Thus, the SocialCar innovation is twofold:
- technological - the potential of open data and GNSS, the electronic payment services for transport
- economic - novel mobility service models, public-private partnerships in the passengers transport domain
Luxembourg will be one of the test sites where the SocialCar system will be validated. Through the project, local authorities seek to establish co-modality services integrating parking, electric car charging, new train stations and bus stops. The Luxembourgish company “Concept Factory” is in charge of the local stakeholder involvement process, which shall result in the assimilation of carpooling into the co-modality hubs. All our archives
